Where I'm From
In a pale green house, with a tire-swing out back,
A driveway plentiful of chalk and endless room for imagination,
Lived a little girl, ready to take on the world.
At age six, she went through hardships,
Spending hours on end near a hospital bed;
Sitting and praying by her brother’s side.
Life went on, but she stayed strong;
There were so many goals left to accomplish,
And countless lessons to learn.
From selling Girl Scout cookies to performing in plays,
From basketball games to ballet;
She had fun in every way,
But she did not stop there.
Instead of chalk filling the driveway,
Paint covers the canvas,
Along with photos overflowing her camera.
Freshly baked cookies, sugar and chocolate chip,
Now replace all the packages of Thin Mints.
Her skills have improved, from then until now;
And she has reached her goal,
Playing varsity girls’ basketball.
Although many aspects have been altered,
Her future still remains bright,
Because after all;
In a pale green house, with a tire-swing out back,
A driveway plentiful of chalk and endless room for imagination,
Lived a little girl, ready to take on the world.
