You Are Gone
You are gone,
not like the death of a flame
not like the seeds of a dandelion caught up in wind
not like the color green in winter.
You did not leave even a wisp of smoke.
You did not give me time even to make a wish.
You did not ever promise to come back.
it was not smooth,
or pretty,
or hopeful.
it was more like
losing a hand.
at first- disbelief
that something so vital
and permanent
could no longer be,
Then-
later,
no more bleeding,
just
every moment a new reminder of what was lost
I grasp at things and come up
empty.
