Childhood Dreams
I dreamt of being a princess one day
One who was independent
Who defied her traditional duties
And traded in her tiaras and dresses for strength and courage
I dreamt of being a teacher one day
Playing ‘’school’’ with my siblings
Standing in front of my them at nearly five feet tall
Spreading my limited knowledge to them
I dreamt of being a pediatrician one day
Swapping my toy stethoscope for an actual one
Working with rowdy kids
And getting nauseous from the pungent smell of blood
I dreamt of being a mother one day
Who cares and provides for her children
Going sleepless nights when they are crying
And comforting them during those trying times
Most importantly, I dream of being a strong-willed person
Holding my head high in the face of adversity
And living life one dream at a time.
