Our Secret
I heard you crying
Across the hall and behind your door
A mere curtain blowing in the breeze
And yet it was too heavy for me to move
And the hall was too wide for me to walk across
To comfort you
And so instead I sat in my room
Counting Crows blaring from the radio
So I couldn’t hear your sobs
And five days later
You’re gone
No one knows why
Or how
Or when or what
But they didn’t hear your sobs
I did
And I know
I know why you did it
And you know that I didn’t comfort you
We both know I should have
And that is our secret
