You lost a daughter
the day you choose
them over me
over us
The day you turned your back
and left us
And I awaited your call
anticipated the knock on the door
for your return
but it never came
I feel like a fool
defending your honor
in the face of my mother’s well deserved spite
in the face of her pain that she hid behind words
Now I stand before you
No forgiveness lurking behind my eyes
Only distrust and acceptance
of the chaos that you have left and brought
once again into our lives
