In Love
For everything you didn’t,
He did to warm my heart and calm my wild thoughts.
For everything you weren’t,
He is to me, and for me.
For every time I cried in pain over you and my feelings and frustration,
He gave me kisses that calmed my rage, kisses that made me feel whole, kisses that felt real.
For every time you weren’t there,
He broke my barriers to hold me close, like a woman.
For every time you hurt me with words and playful strokes,
He hugged and kissed and held the memories at bay.
For every time you didn’t respond to my needs,
He put me first, as a man should.
For every basketball chuck to the face, stomach, arm; every tender touch you never gave,
He held the doors open and had me go first, he said, “it’s the right thing”
For every time I was there for you,
He spent with me and then some I’ll never forget,
He is the pleasure I never felt with you.
For every groan in annoyance; came laughter of sheer joy
With him.
For every baffled state of mind and losing my hair; there were angry moments worth having
With him
For moments wasted on you—
One thing you never showed me.
Love.
