smoke ring
let’s breathe for a second here.
ignore the cracks in my voice
and the sharp breaks in yours.
let’s look around once, twice
absorb the city lights
and untangle from the grey.
and you turn around, and I
want to tell you how much I
missed those days, how much I miss
you,
but the wind blasts sharp and all
of the words that I’ve been saving
are swept away into the darkness.
I watch you curl and fade, like a
smoke ring, into the streets,
and that is how I know it is over.
let’s breathe for a second here.
no, I’m not crying, these are just the
rain clouds that followed us
from the start.
let’s look around once, twice
whisper our farewells into the open air
and disengage.
