From Ashes To Flames
I feel it staring down on me.
That eye in the heavens.
Burning a hole through me.
I try to put the ashes back in
but they slip
through my fingertips.
Ablaze from the embers.
It feels good to be warm again.
I can see its disappointment.
Sad that I've been
stitching myself together
for so long
to keep the pieces together.
I tried to do it by myself
but I'm no surgeon.
But that doesn't make me human,
it makes me Frankenstein's monster.
Falling apart is human.
And that's what I should have done.
I didn't think you could take my breaks.
But you took my brokenness
and made me whole again.
I grabbed your hand
and the fire that rekindled in my soul
mixed with yours.
I looked up into the heavens
to thank that eye.
For helping me realize my humanity.
But all it gave was a wink then vanished.
I searched for it but was blinded
by the glow of our fire.
I'll never forget what that eye did for me.
Igniting the spark of humanity within my soul.
