Abandoned house
I’m an abandoned house.
People walk past me without
A thought, without a care in the world.
Every crack in the floor,
Every broken window,
It’s all filled with
Unforgotten memories.
I was a fantastic house
Until the owners were kicked out,
The paint dried and falling apart,
The windows are shattered, and can’t be fixed.
I’m the last house on the street,
Boarded up with a foreclosed
Notice on the front door.
Hoping someone would buy me,
The trees whisper through the night,
As the wind passed through them.
I sit, waiting in the dark, with the only
Light is a street light that shines
From a block away.
From a block away
There stands an old man.
With his face turning blue
And shivering from the cool fall wind.
He slowly walks toward me with a
Dark blue jacket that looks like
He’s had for years, he creeps up to
The porch, opening the door he looks around the house,
Finding the first bedroom. He sleeps.
He has found his new home.
