Thomas
It's not your fault.
You never knew,
you still don't realize,
that you are perfect.
From the moment you were conceived,
From the moment the human race came into existence,
Even when there was only darkness,
You were meant to be perfect.
Unique, one of a kind,
special, meant for greatness
Rare, a being beyond
the comprehension of men.
Never have there been eyes such as yours.
Switching back and forth between
The softest, creamiest, and kindest of greens,
To the most vivid and intelligent of blues.
Never have I seen lips such as yours,
Bright and thin and soft
Curved in constant happiness,
Offering comforting words, always open and inviting
Never have I kissed a face such as yours,
Soft and smooth and stubbly
The scar on your head and the crinkles in your eyes,
With a jaw both fierce and forgiving.
Never have I seen a body such as yours,
Long and strong and lean and sure
You lean down to kiss my forehead,
Wrapping your steady arms around me.
Never have I held such hands as yours,
Nimble and clever and able on the guitar,
Warm, covering my chilly hands,
Or gently running through my hair.
Never have I seen hair such as yours,
Forever changing with the seasons,
Auburn or blonde or curly or straight or black,
Always lovely, always soft and touchable.
Never have I heard a man speak like you,
Full of Shakespearean wisdom, so enthusiastic, so vivid,
Always eager to laugh and to make laugh
And yet so unaware of the effect you have.
Never have I met someone quite like you,
So full of life, innocent, optimistic,
Full of joy and hope and encouragement,
Always with a joke on your lips.
Never have I met a man like you.
Humble and respectful and eager to please.
Chivalrously jumping to honor and defend.
The last of your kind, a true knight in shining armor.
Never will I understand how a person like you,
A man so seemingly confident, can be so insecure.
How can you possibly feel undeserving of everything I owe you?
Why can't you see that you are perfect?
You act so surprised to know I love you.
You ask me repeatedly,
Unsure of yourself,
As if my answer might one day change.
But I know,
It's not your fault.
You never knew,
you still don't realize,
that you are perfect.
And darling,
I'd love to be the one
That finally made you see
The truth.
