My Friend, Do You
My friend, do you remember me?
We met so long ago.
Our friendship formed
Within a matter of seconds,
Yet never allowed to grow.
I never saw your face again
Or your shining smile
That glinted like the bright stars above our heads.
I pray someday you’ll understand
I never meant you harm.
I miss going to the park and playing hide-n-seek.
I miss searching for you as I peeked through
Every bush and tree.
As I listen for a sound but heard nothing
Except my heavily breathing of exhaustion.
I miss the softness of your hair
As I lent me my shoulder to cry on in your time of need.
As we sat there in dead, cold silence
With bits of your sobs
That escaped the grasps of your hands.
I miss your every birthday
And watching you grow each year.
I miss saying “Hi” as you walk by
And showing you I care.
I hope that wherever you are
You are happy
And that someday will meet again.
For I have suffered and learned
From the mistake I made.
My friend, will you forgive me
For crushing the friendship
You adored and cherished the most?
Will you ever know the tears I’ve shed
For that friendship I carelessly threw away?
My friend, will you remember me
On that day we meet again?
Will you even know my face
Or wonder where I’ve been
And what I’ve done?
“Yes my friend, I remember you;
We met so long ago.
Why you betrayed me,
I do not know
Nor have a clue.”
“Now come for I have forgiven you,”
My friend will say and smile
That smile that shines brighter than it did before.
“I’ll take your hand and you’ll take mine,
For you’ve washed my loneliness and I’ve washed you guilt.”
And finally, we’ll approach the new day,
Hopeful of our
New beginning.
With open arms, we’ll say
“Friends Forever!”
