The Moon Outshines the Stars
They tell you to shoot for the moon.
Because the worst thing that could happen
Is falling onto a star.
They don't tell you that
The stars are pointy
And hurt as you fall.
They don't tell you that
You will take the stars down with you
Smothering the light.
They didn't tell me that
I was hurting other people
That I was being selfish.
They didn't tell me that
It was okay
That I would be fine.
I told myself to make
One cut for each star
I had dimmed.
I told myself that
I needed to go
For others to reach the moon.
So I convinced myself
To say, “Goodbye,
This is my moon."
