The Valentine's Day Widower
Here’s to another Valentine’s Day alone,
Surrounded by affection, but receiving none.
Feeling like a stoic bag of blood and bone,
While the luckier ones are out having fun.
So I stare out the window on the late winter’s day,
As snow gently drifts down from the sky.
I wonder what it will all look like later, in May,
If this freezing February storm ever dies.
The thought of you is lodged in my head;
Your ardent spirit speaks so dear.
To remind me that our longing love is long dead,
And the words on its grave are very clear.
So here’s to another Valentine’s Day alone,
Where I will once again have to forget the past,
Embarking on the day, by myself, at home,
My heart enduring a twenty four hour fast.
And I can only pray that this Valentine’s Day will be my last.
