All That Glitters
All you ever find at the bottom of bottles is glass
And if you’re lucky the last few sickly sweet drops you had never been desperate enough for before
I know there’s nothing there
And yet every night I go looking for you in the bottles lined up like soldiers on the mantel
I dig my fingers deep into the ashtray, hoping to prize free a lipstick coated Marlboro
Some reminder of you, one grown tree in a brush cut field
We just felt profound because we were drunk
You can’t find enlightenment at the bottom
But at night you can mistake the glint of glass
For gold glowing in the moonlight
