She
stands in a handstand

Unseeing wanderers pass with head and arms in the air as she remains, feet towards the sky,
the definition of opposite,
drawings on her pants of creatures she hopes don't exist, scribbles of words no one uses and music phrases no one would know or hope to know of

She dances for ears to turn full circles and see not her, but the frame she has stepped into for the year week day hour

Be seen and feel seen if not be heard and feel heard, she
is the skin of a reptile that has long since been shed, still dancing for eyes and recognition

She
stopped listening to Macklemore because everyone started, I
Don't know what it means to be "different" but I don't think that's it

Still in a handstand, feet waggling for attention, she scours
badly written road maps leading to appearances,
sweeps through plumes of her own cigarette smoke only because her friends wouldn’t go near it,

and builds pages of some modern some black some white snapshots of lives on a representative art page she calls her own
Provocative comes before meaningful and each photo lives up to that

I
Don't
She
Didn't

know what it means to be "different" but
I don't think it's someone who swings on the opposite side of others on a pendulum

"Pretentious" is a word that I run from on tiptoes
and a word that she throws at others, hoping there will be no springs to pull it back to her own
shell and legs in the air

She stands in a handstand, the definition of opposite but not
the definition of different
