Le Pen
It’s long and light violet and it writes violet too. It’s like the upper half of an hour glass — from the felt tip to the cap attached to the back, it’s a crescendo. It says “Le Pen // Marvy Japan” on the side; this is where my thumb always hits when I’m writing.
Its sleek barrel form is supposed to be a pure light violet, but it is dirtied with pencil graphite (I’ve tried cleaning but it won’t come off). With the cap covering the felt tip, Le Pen extends from my palm to the tip of my middle finger.
Sometimes I play with the metal piece on the cap — does it clip onto pockets? I’m wearing a dress so I don’t know.
When I’m half asleep, my thoughts seem to travel through my limbs; Le Pen is like an extra, frostbitten finger, yet it moves enough to catch whatever doesn’t escape through my mouth.
