Always Seen As
Walk along the people-filled path,
Turn your face away from the world,
Hide your pain from their degrading wrath,
Your innocent but broken heart, inward curled.
One of the many youth of the world,
Always seen as the loner girl.
Stride unswervingly to the tune of your heart,
Flip your hair at their hurtful lies,
Head held high, even when you fall apart,
Shamefully distance yourself when you cry.
One of the many youth of the world,
Always seen as the stuck up girl.
Hide protruding ribs under a new designer dress,
After snacking, you’ll retreat to the bathroom to purge,
Sees as picture perfect, though your heart is a mess,
No one understands how you truly hurt.
One of the many youth of the world,
Always seen as the void-of-struggles girl.
Cover your body with layers of cloth,
Ashamed of your unmistakable curves,
Dreading someone may notice; you’re terror wrought,
Always considering diets on which to splurge.
One of the many youth of the world,
Always seen as the husky girl.
Wear your hair long to shroud your face in shame,
Long black shirts obscure scars on your hips,
Rather than let anyone see your pain,
You crush your knuckles to the wall, bruising your battered fists.
One of the many youth of the world,
Always seen as the abnormal girl.
Show no grief for the sake of others,
If anyone suspects, you smile to hide the pain,
You’re supposed to be strong, so if you hurt, why bother?
The trouble with being strong is that no one asks if you’re okay.
One of the many youth of the world,
Always seen as the un-pained girl.
You live your lives in anguish,
Drowning in the problems and hurt,
Taught by a world that is selfish,
Never realizing how much you’re really worth.
One of the many youth of the world,
You are a very special girl.
Worry so much about how you look,
Panic about a stretchmark or scar,
Fret about your hair and the hours it took,
You don’t realize that you’re flawless the way you are.
One of the many youth of the world,
You are a very beautiful girl.
Don’t burden yourself with what others might say,
Be who you are and by no means think twice,
Be who you were born to be and the true friends will stay,
Life involves risk, so why not take a chance and roll the dice?
One of the many youth of the world,
You are you, and you only, girl.
