Each voicemail like a crank call
Tricking myself into thinking you're still here
If only for a little while
Your face lives on my lock screen
Its cliche but it helps
You are the drug that lulls me to sleep

Miles, minutes, states apart
Nothing is ever too far
A bittersweet happiness churns in my chest
A thought of you is always on my mind
Though you're not mine
The lonelyness still fades when I'm with you

A thick, sweet voice fills my ears, fills my head
Its the only music that keeps me sane
No matter how hard I'm pushed
The feeling remains

The author's comments:

I wrote this piece about my best friend who I have known for four years and grew to like after the first three months of knowing him. He is away in the military and no matter what I do I can't help but love him.
