Collision

I used to be like all those other celestial objects
Revolving around others
Who had more influence,
Gravity.

With no choice but to follow
We circle around, never ending.
No aim, no purpose, but to satisfy the whims of gravity.

But then it all changed
When a floating chunk, a stray meteor, a random celestial body
Hit me.
It jolted me so hard I literally fell out of orbit.
And I realized
That what I had orbited was practically nothing
Compared to the whole universe.
The boring society I was used to
Suddenly seemed so far away.
So…insignificant.

Now I roam free, not particularly attracted to anything
Yet not spiraling out of control
The once-in-a-lifetime collision
Totally messed up my orbit
But that’s okay
Because it helped me understand
It’s not only me.

I was inspired when I was thinking about orbits and space in general. I imagined the planets and everything in the universe as society and actual people. It really parallels to our tiny world and how we think and act.

I love space/stars/planets/constellations/nebulae. I enjoyed visualizing this poem. As I read it, I could relate to it as well. Great imagery.
