Side Effect
They told me there would be
no side effects, they lied.
They said it would not hurt,
but it did.
They said it was just one taste,
they were wrong.
You won't get addicted,
they said, they lied.
I will never hold
his callous hand again.
Never get to see
his whiskey brown eyes.
I will never get to taste
the bitterness of his lips.
The kiss that brings me
out of sobriety.
These side effects are long lasting.
They last longer than you want them to.
He is the last drop of bourbon
in my fifth bottle.
He is the warm liquor
that flows through my veins.
He's the end of me,
my last sip.
