My Lost Friend
Many years have passed since you held my hand;
Many years have passed since I've seen your smile;
But the memories slowely fade away as an older age creeps upon my soul:
Many changes have occured, rendering you different from how I remember;
Yet your face still haunts me:
My lost friend.
For a night I see your face in my dreams;
Dreams that stab my heart with the yearning to see thy beauty:
Your face I still see, with your eyes so sweet:
Your's gaze into mine, searching for that love I once had:
But if this search occured on this day;
You would be disappointed:
For I too have changed, more suited for darker times:
You would have to look deeper and further;
But I know you have the ability to find the real me:
For you are my lost friend.
As you may search my soul for me, I will search the world for you:
I will search for your name, your address, or any form of evidence that relates to your location:
For I yearn to hold your soft, warm, hands and remember:
Remember those memories that struggle to crawl back into existence:
Until we share this experience, I shall search:
I shall search for you until the day I die;
For I still love you:
Because you are my lost friend.

I was inspired to write this by the memories of an very good old friend of mine. I moved away, so I never got to see her again, and I went through a long period of depression, so I locked myself away and didn't let anyone in. Only certain people can discover the real me, and I know that she's one. I'm sure everyone has had a similar experience. We all lose friends and we change but no matter how rough life gets, we'll never forget them and we'd do anything to see them one last time.
