Norma Jean Becknell (Cabbage Patch Kid)
I’m nothing but yarn locks
and painted socks but i’ve seen a lifetime
I’ve watched the little girl grow up
I’ve watched her gently rock me to a
plastic slumber
I’ve seen her room never be clean
and my eyes filled with dust
I’ve watched the the little girl watch me
on TV and sing my songs
to herself when she was alone
I felt special
I was put on the top shelf when
others were thrown in bins
I had meaning
I’ve seen dark
I’ve seen the inside of a moving box
that whisked me away in a rush
to get out
I’ve seen the solitude of a crawl space
all alone
I’ve felt abandoned
I was found
I saw the light shine through
a lid and
the little girl picked me up
She’s not so little anymore
I see a room just as messy
with a spot just as familiar
A shelf where I have meaning
and the same little girl smiling back
