Where I'm From
I’m just a normal person,
lurking the halls like a train on a track.
But there’s more to me than that ...
I like 90’s alternative,
and creating skyscrapers on Minecraft.
I only wish I could create music.
The coffee in the morning keeps my eyes open.
I’m an owl,
yet hashbrowns on a Sunday morning make me fall in love.
I’m just another kid in a vast world,
and I try to be.
But there’s more to me than that ...
I like breaking the ankles of defender as Lionel Messi in Fifa,
and drowning myself in six seasons of Lost in less than two weeks.
The mindset of the characters infiltrates my own.
Monopoly and Sorry send me back to my childhood.
Scaling trees like a Curious George,
riding my Schwinn to Sweet Dreams for ice cream.
I’m just another person dreaming of his future,
getting yanked in directions I pondered the preposterous.
But there’s more to me than that ...
I like stability,
and knowing what’s going to happen next.
The same schedule every day.
Corn dogs and tacos are my Juliet.
Either my family is a rat hiding from the chef in a kitchen,
Or we’re keeping the neighbors up at night.
I’m just the way I was born,
and I’m okay with that.
But there’s more to me than that.
I like success,
and confidence.
The unknown scares me most.
To me, the leather chair at work is where I learn,
and my sanctuary is school.
But blank faces surround me.
I’m just another Connor,
same name in the same world.
But there’s a little more to me than that.
I like independence,
and going following my own itinerary.
The feeling pushes me to thrive and grow.
Living alone astounds me.
Being myself is where I’m going,
and acceptance doesn’t matter.
I’m just …
Me.
