Mother
From reading your college textbooks
and learning not to use too much shampoo
You have taught me to listen
and I want to say thank you
You raised me right
with your intricate ways
whether cooking or math
I watch with amaze
You instructed me to dance
to the beat of my own drum
and “pick up your crap”
is the rule of thumb
Even though your life
has never been a picnic
I just want you to know
you’re doing terrific
You are not only my mom
you’re my best friend too
and I’d be lost in the world
without the one and only you
