New Year's Eve
Our axons surge with forgotten memories
That explode like supernovas
As we expel them into the static around us.
Our blood broils with the anticipation
of the unknown as the year dies,
Plunged into the acid of a forthcoming January
(Someone should just put it
Out of its misery already,
Poor pathetic thing).
A New Year is hurtling towards us,
Another one,
A carbon copy of what last year once was,
Rolling in and crushing us
In a fatal collision no one bothers
To write a police report for.
we kill our regrets and
They are revived again with
Midnight kisses and drunken
Rides home when your
Breath licks the steering
Wheel.
God laughs
As we try to harness time
Like the gravity of a moon
And use it to smother different
Parts of ourselves.
Resolutions are just concealed murder weapons
We are too afraid to pull the trigger
