Anxiety fills my chest,
Strong off the block,
Breaking the surface,
Muffled sounds of encouragement fill my ears,
Water slides past my body,
Every turn faster, more precise,
I can feel the wall getting closer,
White water behind me, motivation before me,
Reach for the finish,
Scoreboard stopping,
My limbs aching, but head held high in victory,
Laughter and chants emanating throughout the pool deck,
Flashing cameras before us,
Posed as we “bit the gold,”
Metals dangle from our necks,
Gold, silver and bronze,
Standing tall and proud,
Ecstatic to have our names in the paper,
And our win for the team we love
