Southern turned Northern Tradition
Cold weather, snow, and Christmas music,
Signal of the new year.
For me, it’s pecan pie,
the tastiest treat.
Two weeks before Christmas,
the day begins as family gathers.
As ingredients flood in,
the pie begins.
Crunchy, tasty pecans go in,
along with other unwanted calories to my stomach.
The finished product ready to be baked,
like a jumble of gold.
The smell travels throughout the room,
a hint of heaven.
The final timer detonates,
bundled inside of me.
After prayer,
it’s time for this savory pie.
Bite after bite after bite,
shoveling pie into my mouth like it’s my job.
The torture to my stomach ceases
and lapses my hunger.
Another year continuing tradition,
a northern tradition.
