The Seed
In deep, dark soil,
rested a seed.
Quietly waiting,
until the time came
to morph into a red, ripe apple.
Picked off the Tree
An apple-picking autumn day,
with a crisp wind blowing the leaves.
The apple hung out on the tree,
waiting for kids to pick it.
Small, sweaty hands excitedly grasped around the red, ripe apple.
The Journey Home
Once the kids collected the five Granny Smith apples,
the apples started their adventure.
Their fate in the palms of the pastry chef,
as she rinsed the red, ripe apples.
The transformation commenced.
The Change
Previously circular apples, sliced in squares,
mixed with sweet sugar, nectarous nutmeg, and chalky cinnamon.
The no longer red, ripe apples converted into a golden, gooey mix.
The kids sloppily smeared the mix onto the dough, indented by their fingerprints,
and then the final step arrived: the oven.
The Final Product
After two hours of the kids asking “Is it ready yet?”,
the apples were successfully transformed into an apple pie.
A golden brown crust with warm apple filling created from red, ripe apples.
Placed on the dinner table, the sweet, savory smell taking over the house.
The warm, delicious first bite, leaving the kids’ mouth watering for more.
