Clock Struck One
I smile.
Of course.
Why not?
What else did I honestly expect?
I go down the stairs.
What now?
The kitchen was empty.
How’d I push him away?
The clock tells me it’s half past too-late.
Guess I’ll make breakfast.
When I finished chewing my last bite,
it was a quarter ‘til he’s-too-far-gone.
Once the clock strikes the hour,
it’s official;
now you’re alone
I sip my coffee as the funeral bells chime.
