Where I'm From
I am from the outdoors,
from the treetops and the field in my backyard.
I am from the gunshots,
sounds like popcorn in a microwave.
I am from the feverous freezing fingers,
among the rough trees that protect me.
I am from basketball,
which brought me together with my friends.
I am from the practices,
and the drills that work me harder than anything.
I am from the games,
running and shooting despite fatigue.
I am from the crashes,
and the blood rushing like a waterfall.
I am from the cuts,
the stitches that pierce through my skin.
I am from the contusions,
with tender bruising and good experiences.
