Hurricane
I was always fascinated by natural disasters
and the way the ocean flowed gently,
with an uncertain chance of destruction.
Your waters were deep with secrets,
and I was naive enough to drown myself in them.
So when you came crashing into my life
as a wave would aim for revenge,
I stuck around
instead of running for safety.
And when the rain started to pour
and the wind gained speed,
I remained still
and asked myself how someone so breathtaking
could make ruins.
Being in the eye of your storm
made me feel as if I could make it calm
and save my world from devastation.
But when the clouds cleared
and I stood alone on the rubble of your outcry,
I realized I wasn’t the one
who needed to save you from your own creation.
