I am Cuban
I am a silver lining, a topic of debate, a gray area, an unwritten rule of fate, but I am still Cuban.
I am adopted, I am white, not born Hispanic, but that’s alright. I am still Cuban.
I dance, I sing, I yell, I speak, I breathe Cuban, so I am Cuban.
All my life I have been, and will continue to be Cuban.
How I started out
does not change the fact
That I am Cuban
My biological makeup
Does not change the fact
That I am Cuban
So I will rephrase what I said earlier
I am not a silver lining, I am not a topic of debate, I am not a gray area, not an unwritten rule of fate, I am a writer, a poet, an artist, adopted, happy, loud, a good student, a good friend, a good daughter, I am white, but I am still Cuban.
And I am proud to be one.
