Fallen Angels
I prayed for Lucifer as
a child. I cried over
Icarus and I prayed for
Lucifer. I asked God what
made Satan any different.
I wondered how Lucifer
deserved banishment and the
eternal punishment and
yet I got a second chance.
So I prayed for Lucifer.
I saw myself in his eyes
a broken boy who screamed that
if god could leave his creation
for dead, maybe a broken
boy who at least had a heart
Maybe a broken boy could
do better than this heartless
god. After all, the only
difference between Lucifer
and I, is he had courage
He had the courage to fall
and my scream died in my throat
if I stand before god and
he judges my list of sins
I will force him to beg me
Beg for forgiveness for his
sins far outnumber my own
When he let the burden of
creation fall on children's
shoulders, and abandoned us all
I prayed over Lucifer
I wept over Icarus.
For maybe the two were one
and the same. Fallen Angels.
I prayed over Lucifer.
