Cheerful Chums?
There’s the loud ones,
And also the quiet ones.
Actually, I take that back,
They are all vociferous
The obstreperous teens you avoid
While strolling down the street
Some of them vex me,
Those are the one’s I doubt are my true friends,
I know they aren’t there for me
But only to suck out any secrets I have,
Only to try and copy me and be me,
Only to steal away my friends.
Others,
Are just truly fantabulous
Always there for me
My shoulder to snivel on, endlessly
Yet the recollections are all hysterical laughing fits
Over the ludicrous jokes and events
When I think the word “friend”
One person pops into my mind
My dear friend
She is always there, figuratively and literally
Actually, there’s about a 10% chance I’m FaceTiming her
Any hour of the day
But this is the kind of bond that lasts
That when I’m 80 years old in my rocking chair knitting scarves,
I’ll remember from the “glory days”
So to all of the people who have someone there for them
Take a moment, and thank them
