The Fool

Here’s to that “sir,”
that very kind “sir,”
who told me to pursue property,
not happiness,
who called me a fool.
Here’s to the girl in the mirror that day,
who made me realize my true wish,
was to stop wishing,
it doesn’t get a fool anywhere.
Here’s to that fool,
who was a fool for hoping
who died a little when that kind “sir” spoke,
that fool who’s sick of wishing stars,
and foolishly believes in tomorrow.
