A Mother's Heart
Precious little boy,
running down the street.
Trips and falls in dust,
calling out for me.
I run and pick him up,
soothing with my words.
“Baby, I'm right here.
You're safe in my arms.”
Son all grown up.
Dragging his cross down the street.
Trips and falls in blood,
My heart calling for him.
I run and kneel beside him,
choking on my tears.
“Baby, I'm right here.”
No longer safe in my arms.
