“Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this too, was a gift.”

― Mary Oliver

last night
when water hugged
my skin and enveloped
my body, placed
fingers over my face,
I wanted
simplicity in the things
it offered. I wanted
the darkness and the
fluid, graceless cold
leaking into my
veins. I wanted,
for a little while,
like crazy,
to just have
everything
be that perfect
moment of nothing
lovely.

swimming, and summer moments as you escape heat. I thought this was a rather oppressive thing to write about.

To love is to be vulnerable; Triumph is born out of struggle; We notice shadows most when they stand alone in the midst of overwhelming light.

Eek. I read this once, and I wanted to comment on it, so badly. But then I forgot about it, and I apologize for that. :( My memory has, ah. Been slightly weird, haha. If that makes sense. Anyways, I love this poem. This is exactly how I feel, it's just perfect. I love simple things. :) It does take that much to keep me happy, I guess. Haha, I just love this a lot. Because it's wonderful and phenomenal. :)I'm glad that this was published in the magazine. And though my greeting is very late, congrats. :) Thank you so much, for sharing this. You're a winderful writer and person. Thank you again. :)

I've yet to forget that I promised to check out your work, haley101. It takes a while for me to get back to whoever requests some feedback from me (believe me, it's quite a list; but I enjoy giving feedback more than any thing). With that said, I'm so happy to have read this. I'm a huge believer in simplicity when it comes to poetry. Not always; but most of the time. Simplicity is often more than big fancy words and emotions. This poem is almost spiritual. There are times when I feel the same way. I just want to be at one with nature. Does that makes sense? Like when I gaze into the jet black skies freckled with pink and silver stars surrounding the amber moon—I want to be a part of it. Dunno how. But I just do. I really like the format of the poem; I feel like it works well with the simplicity of the poem. Simple doesn't mean BLERGH or BLAH. Sometimes simplicity carries more with it. And in this poem, I feel like the speaker is at "war" with him/herself. Trying to escape the complicated voom-voom-voom of Life, and relax; be at one with Nature, if you will; just accept those wonderful simple and quiet moments in Life. The beginning is very beautiful. Congrats on the Editors' Choice. Keep writing. I suggest more stuff like this. 5/5
