The Light and the Dark
I step out into the depths of night
It's funny this light, it's bright.
But it doesn't quite feel right
A surreal illusion, a deceptive test.
Hell for me, heaven for the rest
To you it's a gift, shines straight so you see your way.
My light is a burden, attempting to illuminate the day.
Your way is already illuminated
My path looks dissipated.
This "gift" that has been bestowed unto me,
I sure as hell hope you kept the receipt
I long to return it, but can't do it myself.
Re-gift this light to someone else
Why enter a maze to which you see no end in sight?
Why burden yourself with the extraordinary weight of the plight, the fright?
On the outside your light blinds and illuminates me
But on the inside it remains a black haze, no light bright enough to see
A barrier of physical existence separates the light from the dark,
Few look deep enough, none further than the fog
They can't physically see, so they take the opportunity
Turn back now, what lies beyond remains a mystery
A mime in a box, a prisoner imprisoned
A fish in a tank, a black dog enslaved
Existence made up of evil engraved
Thin barriers in appearance, made of shadows indestructible.
Time doesn't exist, a theory uninterruptible
Only a tiny hole to look out and fight
No sun, no stars, no real light.
Fluorescent.
False.
Fake.
The light that smogs the sun
So you can't see, think, or run
I lay in here, scared only of myself.
I hide behind this fluorescent lie
I know one day the darkness will be the reason I die.
