The Cat
As I walk in the door,
he lurks around the corner.
Making sure it was me who entered
his area of play.
First comes the cheerful meow.
A whining baby,
in hope that I will approach him.
I have other things to do,
so I try to pass by.
He begins to prod me with his nose,
a doctor examining his patient,
but I ignore it and move on.
I maneuver my way into another room,
avoiding his presence,
but he tails me wherever I go.
I didn’t ask for company,
but he’s the camera watching my every move.
The noise only gets louder
as I work on other things,
and my patience is slowly running out.
At this point,
the annoyance isn’t worth
the pain.
A little attention seems like
hours to him,
so I give him what he wants,
like the child he is.
