Battle Cry
The general stands
Facing his troops
Making commands
To his strong group
“We’re here to fight!”
He yells aloud
But is that right?
Should he be proud?
And then a thought
Came into my head
“Do I want to have fought?
Do I want to be dead?”
So then I ask
Our commanding man
He drinks from his flask
Then looks at his plan
I cannot wait
I don’t want to die
I won’t be the bait
So I ask him why
“Why should we die
Out here on this field
While you shout your battle cry
And hide behind your shield?”
He looks at me
His eyes grow large
He says “Come with me”
Then he yells “Charge!”
We walk to a hill
He looks really humble
But then looks quite ill
As the ground starts to rumble
We turn and we look
And see all our men die
By this we’ve been shook
And both start to cry
He looks at me and with a yelp
He asks me
“Why did you not help?”
And then I see
The battle cry
Is nothing more
Than a last goodbye
And a closing door
